Vitrectomy

Your Mercy Eye surgeon may prescribe a vitrectomy for a variety of conditions including:

• diabetic retinopathy
• retinal detachment
• macular hole
• intraocular eye infection
• foreign body extraction
• epiretinal membrane infection

During the procedure your surgeon will administer either local or general anesthesia and then make a small incision in the sclera (white portion) of your eye and then suction out the vitreous.
