Laser Surgery
Mercy’s highly-experienced and trained surgeons are able to use laser therapy to correct a variety of eye conditions and diseases including:
- wet macular degeneration – in this procedure a laser can be directed to destroy thin, leaking blood vessels in the eye and prevent further vision loss. However there is a strong risk that new blood vessels could regrow after the surgery, necessitating another procedure.
- retinal detachment – in this procedure (“laser photocoagulation”) a laser can be employed to seal a hole or tear in the retina, ensuring that vision is not permanently lost.
- glaucoma – ophthalmologists can use laser surgery to make a small opening in your eye’s drainage system to improve fluid outflow to reduce pressure.
