Congenital Glaucoma
Congenital Glaucoma – congenital glaucoma is a rare, usually heredity disease that leaves the eye’s drainage system incorrectly formed before birth. The faulty drainage system causes the eye to retain more than normal fluid levels which increases the intraocular pressure which damages the optic nerve and without treatment, can eventually lead to permanent vision loss. Symptoms of childhood glaucoma include:
- enlarged eyes
- cloudy cornea
- sensitivity to light
The prescribed treatment can range from oral medication or eye drops to filtering surgery or
laser surgery.
