"St. Vs Provides Life-saving Care for Toledo Education Leader"
Toledo, Ohio - As a former assistant school superintendent and principal in the Toledo school district, Richard J., has enjoyed a long and successful career. Just as he was reaching the time to retire, he had a heart attack.
I remember it well as my son and I were preparing to leave for a golfing trip in Florida, recalled the active 62-year-old Jackson. My wife and I had gone out for dinner, and I thought that I was having a case of indigestion, but after hours of discomfort, I came to the realization that it was more serious. So, I went to St. Vs emergency department. They suspected a heart attack and quickly confirmed the attack. The physician admitted me to the intensive care unit, and I underwent quintuple bypass the next day.
Jackson said he stayed in the hospital for five days following surgery. From the onset, I received the very best care possible. I had an excellent and skillful surgeon who was able to save my life. The nursing staff was especially responsive. The surgeon, nurses and all of the support staff were personable and took such good care of me. Despite having a life-threatening event, I felt I was always safe and in capable hands.
The lifelong Toledo resident says he has a family history of heart disease and has been under a physicians care for several years to monitor his high cholesterol and type-2 diabetes. Despite having a couple of health issues, he says that he recovered quickly.
I attribute much of my successful recovery to the staff at St. Vs. I truly believe that St. Vs saved my life. While I was a patient in the cardiac and step-down units, I was focused on recovering, and I didnt think much about what it all meant at the time. Now, when I think about what happened, I get choked up because I believe St. Vs gave me a second chance. Sometimes you just know that its not your time, and that you are saved so that you can finish some things in life. I now have that opportunity to continue to make a difference in my community, and I owe much of that to the fine staff at St. Vs.
Our family has always depended on St. Vs to provide our medical care, and theyve never disappointed us. We believe the hospital offers the very best in personal medical care.
Jackson says his health remains good today. I am more aware of my health now and have taken more positive steps toward keeping myself healthy. I walk daily and maintain a better diet. Im not taking my second chance for granted.
