"Mercy Physician Puts Patient, Family at Ease"
Toledo, Ohio - When Julie B. and her husband received the news that her OB/GYN practice was closing last summer, she was devastated. At the time, she was nearly eight months pregnant and was depending on the practice to deliver their third child.
“I had never gone to a male OB/GYN before, so switching, especially during such a crucial time in my pregnancy, made me very nervous,” said the 29-year-old mother of three. “When you are that far along in your pregnancy, you want to know the doctor who is delivering your baby.”
Luckily, according to Julie, she was referred to Mercy OB/GYN – Westfield. She said that before she was scheduled for delivery, she and her husband, Joshua, met with all three of the physicians in the practice so that she would not have a stranger walking in the door at the hospital. When Julie went into labor in August, Dr. Anthony Armstrong was on call.
“We were so fortunate to have found Dr. Armstrong,” noted Julie. “He made the entire process so easy and relaxing. He even had us laughing throughout the delivery, which is not something that you expect to happen.
“The birth was not without complications. The cord wrapped around our daughters neck during delivery, but Dr. Armstrong stayed calm and reassuring the entire time. My husband and I knew something was wrong, but we stayed focused on Dr. Armstrong, and he kept us together.”
Julie joked that she had pushed for two hours with her previous pregnancies and didn’t want to have that happen again, noting that she told Dr. Armstrong that she would only push for 15 minutes. “Thank goodness our daughter, Selah, was born after only 11 minutes!”
“While most doctors are there for just the delivery and leave shortly afterwards, Dr. Armstrong stayed with us, explaining everything that happened. Having him take the extra time to help us understand the process was amazing. It was a wonderful birthing experience, and we have him to thank for making it so positive.”
“We are so appreciative of Dr. Armstrong’s bedside manner. He came in and immediately made us feel confident about the delivery,” explained Joshua Barfield. “He sensed that we were a bit anxious and knew what it took to make us comfortable. Having a relaxing atmosphere with a physician who remained calm throughout the delivery was awesome.”
