Trying to Quit Smoking? You May Qualify for a Medicare Program

separator If you have an illness caused by tobacco use—or if your illness is complicated by tobacco use—you may qualify for Medicare’s new smoking cessation program. The program covers counseling sessions, not the cost of products that some people use to help them quit.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 300,000 senior citizens die each year from smoking-related illnesses. So there’s good reason to try to quit. And if you’ve tried to quit at other times in your life and weren’t successful, you may be interested to know that senior citizens are 50 percent more likely to succeed than all other age groups.

In other words, go for it!
