The oncology doctor is guided by ultrasound as they place the radioactive, rice-sized "seeds" into your cancerous prostate. Using this advanced technology, the doctor is able to target cancerous areas of the prostate with higher doses of radiation. Typically, the entire gland is treated because cancer is likely to be found in more than one area of the prostate gland.

This is a one-time, minimally invasive procedure and is one of the fastest growing methods of treating prostate cancer in the United States. Candidates for prostate seed implants are typically those with early-stage prostate cancer that has not spread outside the prostate. The goal of this cancer treatment is to keep the radiation localized and precise in order to kill cancer cells, while also preserving surrounding healthy tissue.
