Once diagnosed, the cancer patient may be referred to an oncologist, a cancer specialist, for treatment recommendations. Some patients find it helpful to get a second opinion. This doesn’t demonstrate a lack of faith in the initial doctor, but allows the patient to gather even more information to ensure that the final treatment plan is the best choice.
