Chemotherapy is a general term for any treatment involving the use of chemical agents to stop cancer cells from growing, and it can be administered orally, intravenously (IV), or with an injection.

Chemotherapy medications travel throughout all parts of the body, including those unaffected by cancer. These drugs are able to fight cancer cells at the tumor site, as well as cells which spread from the original cancer location. It is an important treatment of primary cancer or metastatic cancer (cancer that has spread to another site within the patient’s body).
