Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)

CHF is a condition that occurs when your heart is either unable to fill with adequate blood or pump enough oxygen-rich blood through your body. CHF can be caused by coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart valve disorders and long-term alcohol abuse. It is a progressive condition, meaning that it typically gets worse (your heart gets weaker) over time. Symptoms include:
  • fatigue
  • shortness of breath
  • swelling due to fluid build-up
  • increased urination
  • decreased appetite
  • nausea and abdominal pain due to fluid accumulation in the liver and intestines
