Committed to providing accurate diagnostic testing and quality hearing instruments
Hearing loss affects more than 25 million Americans. The largest group of people with hearing loss is the elderly, however, some level of hearing loss can affect anyone from newborns to older adults. Sensorineural hearing loss is most common. This type of hearing loss occurs when there has been damage either to the structures of the inner ear or to the auditory nerve that sends signals from the inner ear to the brain. Levels of hearing loss vary from a mild loss of sensitivity to total hearing loss. The most common cause of hearing loss in adults is due to noise. Other causes include aging, injury infection or disease.
The Audiology Department at Mercy St. Charles Hospital is committed to providing accurate diagnostic testing and recommendations for improving hearing. If it is determined that a hearing instrument is needed to amplify sounds, the audiologist will show you our complete line of high quality, state-of-the-art hearing instruments.
